It's interesting to me that you're being so passive agressive about this issue. I would be extremely interested to know what you think about the OTHER issues that Prop 8 brings up. I would also be interested to know what your response is to my comment on your myspace blog you posted when the Supreme Court Justices overturned the popular vote on gay marriage a a few months ago.
I keep coming over to your blog because I keep hoping that you'll say something from YOU... but all I find are other people's words.
I'm assuming you voted No on 8. What I'm curious about, as a friend and fellow Christian, is why. Is it the same reason that the rest of the state voted no? Or did you dig a little deeper than that and have a better reason? I'm curious.
Do we prohibit those who have sex before marriage from marrying? Do we prohibit murderers from marrying? Do we prohibit ANYONE from marrying?? Why homosexuals? Why are they so unfit for the institution of marriage? The simple fact is that it doesn't make sense.
Marriage is a government institution and, separately, also a religious institution. My husband is still married to his first wife, according to the Catholic Church! Law and religion are very different things, and I see no way in which it makes sense to pass a law against homosexual marriage. If a church doesn't want to marry a homosexual couple, they will go to the Justice of the Peace. I cannot get married in the Catholic Church because I am not Catholic. I would not expect a church to agree to marry a homosexual couple when it was against their beliefs, but I would expect the government to marry a homosexual couple. I know it sounds a little too "easy" of an answer, but my honest first reaction to the whole issue is "Who cares?!" If two people want to get married, more power to them.
Hmm. Wow. I think I understand why you've avoided the issue with me.
As for the other issues, check out my blog.
As for marriage being a government institution...that's a bit naive I think. It became one, but marriage is deffinitely an institution created by God.
I guess the issue that frustrates me is that I felt that you and I held the same opinions on certain things based in Biblical teaching, and this doesn't seem to line up with the Bible. I believe that I made my case quite well concerning marriage and the government in my response to your MySpace blog post a while back. If you want to find it again you can go to biblicallybackwards.blogspot.com and click on "Romans" under the labels.
I'm not trying to attack your beliefs, I'm just trying to understand how you and I can claim to believe the same things and yet differ so greatly on this issue. Sorry to call you out, per se, on the blog. I know that you receive things much easier when you can hear my voice and I should have taken that into consideration. Really, I wasn't trying to attack you, just understand.

What OTHER issues are you referring to?
